Principal
Graham Burton has a Master’s Degree in Design and Media Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees in Graphic Design, Teaching and Management.
On leaving full-time education, Graham developed his career in the creative industries as a designer. Throughout his time in the industry, he developed his skills by working for high-profile clients, including Pirelli, Channel 4, and the BBC.
A latecomer to academia, he was head of higher education at New College Nottingham, as well as working at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) as a short course tutor.
He was also a consultant on their Future Factory project; a project designed to help master’s graduates take the next step in realising their thesis projects, as well as a member of their validation panel for international degrees. After leaving Nottingham he worked in Essex authoring degree programmes for the University of the Arts, London. During this time, he wrote and had approval for 7-degree programmes, including one in collaboration with The Royal Opera House, London.
He moved to the Middle East in 2016 to take up the position of deputy head at a school in Kuwait. In 2017 he moved to Qatar to take a position as vice principal in a secondary school. He joined UFC in 2020.
Chemistry / Biology Lecturer
Dr Hajira has been a senior lecturer of Chemistry, Medicine and Biology at UFC since 2018. The early chapters of her life unfolded in the vibrant academic atmosphere at UCLan. Here, her passion for science is rooted, guiding her through the corridors of Medicinal Chemistry. This journey was marked by the conferral of a PhD, a testament to her speciality in “The Development & Evaluation of a New Generation of Photo-Antimicrobial Isoalloxazine Dyes for Infection Control”.
Her contributions transcend academia, earning her numerous awards for international conference presentations. Dr Hajira has twice received the prestigious all-expense-paid journey award at the American Chemical Society Conference in Philadelphia, recognising her talent in scientific writing and dedicated research.
Dr Hajira’s narrative is a holistic exploration of life’s diverse dimensions alongside a scientific journey. Dr Hajira’s story is of academic excellence, and passion for martial arts, drawing parallels between the discipline it instils, and the focus required in the scientific realm. She enjoys exploring the sand dunes and loves to discover hidden gems amidst the natural beauty of the sand, sea, and sun, and a dedication to expanding the boundaries of her scientific knowledge.
Business and Maths Lecturer
Irfan Rashdi boasts a rich and varied background, spanning academia and industry across the UK, Pakistan, and the Middle East. Presently employed at University Foundation College in Qatar, his fascination with mathematics and business took root during his academic journey. Initially graduating in Civil Engineering from a prestigious Pakistani institution, he later pursued an MPhil in Business and Management from the University of Nottingham in the UK, alongside earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Mathematics with distinction.
Beginning his professional journey in highway engineering, Irfan oversaw numerous projects before transitioning into academia, holding various leadership roles. After completing his PGCE, he honed his teaching skills as a math instructor in distinguished London schools. Seeking new experiences, he ventured to the UAE before settling in Qatar, where he found both challenges and rewards in adapting to a new environment.
Irfan prioritises fostering positive connections with his students, emphasising the practical application of knowledge and inclusive teaching practices.
Outside the classroom, he enjoys cricket, sports, philosophy, and Scrabble, alongside spending quality time with his family and supporting his children’s academic endeavours.
EAP Lecturer
Narine Avtandilyan is an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Lecturer in the International Foundation Year programme at University Foundation College. She was awarded a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from AUA with the University of California, USA and is a certified EAP Senior Lecturer by SOAS University of London.
Narine is a seasoned educator teaching at EAP, ESP, diploma and undergraduate programmes in the Arabian Gulf countries for over a decade. She has presented various research papers and practical workshops at local and international conferences. Nara has served the TESOL International Association and TESOL Arabia for many years and is a Past TESOL Kuwait Programme Chair (2016-2017). Her most popular papers “Artificial Intelligence in Education: Panacea or Pandora’s Box”, “Instructional Illuminators: Scoring Rubrics for Speaking Skills”, “Learning by Doing: Project-based Learning” and “Education in New Era: Modern Teaching Methods” have been published in TESOL Quarterly, USA and Proceedings of TESOL Arabia Conference.
Nara has a special interest in research, professional development, and educational technology.
EAP Lecturer
Diana Gajudo Elizaga is a Lecturer of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at University Foundation College. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Linguistics. Prior to coming to Qatar, Diana was an English Language Lecturer at Ibra College of Technology in Oman which gave her ample experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language. She also has a long-standing relationship with All Nations College, a teacher training institution in the Philippines, where she instructs and mentors less fortunate but well-deserved students who are now certified teachers themselves.
Apart from teaching, Diana had brief stints in different industries such as hotel, insurance, computer manufacturing and Forex trading. Moreover, she has more than 6 years of experience in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) for the UK and Ireland. Whenever she is in the Philippines, she makes herself available as an on-call facilitator for Benchmark Consulting, a job she cherishes for the opportunity to travel and interact with people from different walks of life.
In her free time, she enjoys taking walks in MIA Park and Katara. You might also bump into her at the National Library as she is fascinated by the beauty of books surrounding her.
ICT and Physics Lecturer
Danish Naseer is an accomplished electrical engineer and educator with a passion for technology and student empowerment. Holding a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the National University of Computer Science, Islamabad, and a Graduate Specialisation Certificate in Internet Industrial of Things from the University of Colorado Boulder, Danish has a solid foundation in technical principles and innovations. His professional journey spans roles in electrical engineering at Alwahab Construction in Qatar and entrepreneurship, co-founding a startup recognised as the Best Tech Startup of the Year in 2016.
As a teacher, Danish has imparted knowledge in engineering subjects like Calculus, Programming with C/C++, and Control Systems to students from prestigious institutions worldwide, showcasing his ability to simplify complex topics. His project work includes designing a cloud-based home automation system, developing assistive glasses for the visually impaired, creating an automated bird feeder, and conducting a comprehensive study on styrene production, demonstrating his innovative approach and problem-solving skills.
Fluent in English, Urdu, and Arabic, Danish enjoys making robots, learning about new technologies, and watching football in his free time. Economics and Business Studies Lecturer
Ashraf Vavda is an experienced educator with a strong background in Economics and Computer Science. He holds a BA in Business Economics from Manchester Metropolitan University and a PGCE in Secondary Computer Science from Liverpool John Moores University. Ashraf has taught A Level Business and Economics at Holy Cross College, and iGCSE Business Studies, iGCSE Economics, and IB Business Management at Compass International School Doha. His passion for inclusive teaching ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
He is also involved in extracurricular activities, including the Model United Nations and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Prior to education, Ashraf worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst and Project Manager in the health industry, where he honed his skills in data analysis and project management. This blend of industry and teaching experience enables him to offer practical insights in the classroom.
Beyond teaching, Ashraf is an avid rock climber with over seven years of experience and enjoys football, tennis, badminton, and water sports. He is also interested in public policy and public health, aspiring to pursue a master’s degree in the field. Computer Science Lecturer
Francis Heuze is a dedicated Computer Science Lecturer with over 20 years of international experience in the UK, Qatar, and Central Asia. He completed his Computer Science degree at De Montfort University, UK, and later studied Educational Leadership with Coventry University, combining strong subject knowledge with proven leadership skills.
Francis holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the UK and has taught Computer Science, BTEC IT, and programming at IGCSE, A-Levels and foundation. In addition to teaching, he has extensive experience in IT network management and implementation, gained while working for the Local Education Authority in the UK and in schools in Qatar, which enriches his teaching with valuable real-world expertise. Olga Cretu currently serves as a University Placement Officer and Lecturer of Economics and Global Studies at University Foundation College in Doha, Qatar. Hailing from Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, Olga brings a wealth of educational background and expertise to her roles.

Nabil Makarem has been an Academic Administration Assistant at University Foundation College since 2021. He holds a master’s in business administration from the Lebanese American University in Beirut and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the Lebanese American University.
Before coming to Qatar in 2020, Nabil was a part-time teacher at a polyclinic for students who struggled with their education, he was also a volunteer for the Lebanese Red Cross for 3 years with an EMT Certification. Nadia Mohammed Abdulla, who holds the position of Senior PR & Communications Manager at University Foundation College in Qatar, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. Mohamed Mazhar Taha is a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer at University Foundation College in Qatar, with an impressive career of over 7 years.
