Graham Burton has a Master’s Degree in Design and Media Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees in Graphic Design, Teaching and Management.

On leaving full-time education, Graham developed his career in the creative industries as a designer. Throughout his time in the industry, he developed his skills by working for high-profile clients, including Pirelli, Channel 4, and the BBC.

A latecomer to academia, he was head of higher education at New College Nottingham, as well as working at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) as a short course tutor.

He was also a consultant on their Future Factory project; a project designed to help master’s graduates take the next step in realising their thesis projects, as well as a member of their validation panel for international degrees. After leaving Nottingham he worked in Essex authoring degree programmes for the University of the Arts, London. During this time, he wrote and had approval for 7-degree programmes, including one in collaboration with The Royal Opera House, London.

He moved to the Middle East in 2016 to take up the position of deputy head at a school in Kuwait. In 2017 he moved to Qatar to take a position as vice principal in a secondary school. He joined UFC in 2020.

Dr Hajira has been a senior lecturer of Chemistry, Medicine and Biology at UFC since 2018. The early chapters of her life unfolded in the vibrant academic atmosphere at UCLan. Here, her passion for science is rooted, guiding her through the corridors of Medicinal Chemistry. This journey was marked by the conferral of a PhD, a testament to her speciality in “The Development & Evaluation of a New Generation of Photo-Antimicrobial Isoalloxazine Dyes for Infection Control”.

Her contributions transcend academia, earning her numerous awards for international conference presentations. Dr Hajira has twice received the prestigious all-expense-paid journey award at the American Chemical Society Conference in Philadelphia, recognising her talent in scientific writing and dedicated research.

Dr Hajira’s narrative is a holistic exploration of life’s diverse dimensions alongside a scientific journey. Dr Hajira’s story is of academic excellence, and passion for martial arts, drawing parallels between the discipline it instils, and the focus required in the scientific realm. She enjoys exploring the sand dunes and loves to discover hidden gems amidst the natural beauty of the sand, sea, and sun, and a dedication to expanding the boundaries of her scientific knowledge.

Irfan Rashdi boasts a rich and varied background, spanning academia and industry across the UK, Pakistan, and the Middle East. Presently employed at University Foundation College in Qatar, his fascination with mathematics and business took root during his academic journey. Initially graduating in Civil Engineering from a prestigious Pakistani institution, he later pursued an MPhil in Business and Management from the University of Nottingham in the UK, alongside earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Mathematics with distinction.

Beginning his professional journey in highway engineering, Irfan oversaw numerous projects before transitioning into academia, holding various leadership roles. After completing his PGCE, he honed his teaching skills as a math instructor in distinguished London schools. Seeking new experiences, he ventured to the UAE before settling in Qatar, where he found both challenges and rewards in adapting to a new environment.

Irfan prioritises fostering positive connections with his students, emphasising the practical application of knowledge and inclusive teaching practices.

Outside the classroom, he enjoys cricket, sports, philosophy, and Scrabble, alongside spending quality time with his family and supporting his children’s academic endeavours.

Narine Avtandilyan is an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Lecturer in the International Foundation Year programme at University Foundation College. She was awarded a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from AUA with the University of California, USA and is a certified EAP Senior Lecturer by SOAS University of London.

Narine is a seasoned educator teaching at EAP, ESP, diploma and undergraduate programmes in the Arabian Gulf countries for over a decade. She has presented various research papers and practical workshops at local and international conferences. Nara has served the TESOL International Association and TESOL Arabia for many years and is a Past TESOL Kuwait Programme Chair (2016-2017). Her most popular papers “Artificial Intelligence in Education: Panacea or Pandora’s Box”, “Instructional Illuminators: Scoring Rubrics for Speaking Skills”, “Learning by Doing: Project-based Learning” and “Education in New Era: Modern Teaching Methods” have been published in TESOL Quarterly, USA and Proceedings of TESOL Arabia Conference.

Nara has a special interest in research, professional development, and educational technology.

Diana Gajudo Elizaga is a Lecturer of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at University Foundation College. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Linguistics. Prior to coming to Qatar, Diana was an English Language Lecturer at Ibra College of Technology in Oman which gave her ample experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language. She also has a long-standing relationship with All Nations College, a teacher training institution in the Philippines, where she instructs and mentors less fortunate but well-deserved students who are now certified teachers themselves.

Apart from teaching, Diana had brief stints in different industries such as hotel, insurance, computer manufacturing and Forex trading. Moreover, she has more than 6 years of experience in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) for the UK and Ireland. Whenever she is in the Philippines, she makes herself available as an on-call facilitator for Benchmark Consulting, a job she cherishes for the opportunity to travel and interact with people from different walks of life.

In her free time, she enjoys taking walks in MIA Park and Katara. You might also bump into her at the National Library as she is fascinated by the beauty of books surrounding her.

Danish Naseer is an accomplished electrical engineer and educator with a passion for technology and student empowerment. Holding a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the National University of Computer Science, Islamabad, and a Graduate Specialisation Certificate in Internet Industrial of Things from the University of Colorado Boulder, Danish has a solid foundation in technical principles and innovations. His professional journey spans roles in electrical engineering at Alwahab Construction in Qatar and entrepreneurship, co-founding a startup recognised as the Best Tech Startup of the Year in 2016.

As a teacher, Danish has imparted knowledge in engineering subjects like Calculus, Programming with C/C++, and Control Systems to students from prestigious institutions worldwide, showcasing his ability to simplify complex topics. His project work includes designing a cloud-based home automation system, developing assistive glasses for the visually impaired, creating an automated bird feeder, and conducting a comprehensive study on styrene production, demonstrating his innovative approach and problem-solving skills.

Fluent in English, Urdu, and Arabic, Danish enjoys making robots, learning about new technologies, and watching football in his free time. His diverse interests and commitment to education and technology make him a valuable asset to any organisation seeking to empower students and advance technological solutions.

Ashraf Vavda is an experienced educator with a strong background in Economics and Computer Science. He holds a BA in Business Economics from Manchester Metropolitan University and a PGCE in Secondary Computer Science from Liverpool John Moores University. Ashraf has taught A Level Business and Economics at Holy Cross College, and iGCSE Business Studies, iGCSE Economics, and IB Business Management at Compass International School Doha. His passion for inclusive teaching ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed.

He is also involved in extracurricular activities, including the Model United Nations and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Prior to education, Ashraf worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst and Project Manager in the health industry, where he honed his skills in data analysis and project management. This blend of industry and teaching experience enables him to offer practical insights in the classroom.

Beyond teaching, Ashraf is an avid rock climber with over seven years of experience and enjoys football, tennis, badminton, and water sports. He is also interested in public policy and public health, aspiring to pursue a master’s degree in the field. Ashraf is fluent in English, Gujarati, and Urdu, and enjoys traveling to explore new cultures.

Francis Heuze is a dedicated Computer Science Lecturer with over 20 years of international experience in the UK, Qatar, and Central Asia. He completed his Computer Science degree at De Montfort University, UK, and later studied Educational Leadership with Coventry University, combining strong subject knowledge with proven leadership skills.

Francis holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the UK and has taught Computer Science, BTEC IT, and programming at IGCSE, A-Levels and foundation. In addition to teaching, he has extensive experience in IT network management and implementation, gained while working for the Local Education Authority in the UK and in schools in Qatar, which enriches his teaching with valuable real-world expertise. He has also held senior leadership roles, leading curriculum development, mentoring teachers and integrating digital learning.

Passionate about preparing young people for the future, Francis focuses on programming, databases, algorithms, and digital literacy, ensuring students develop the skills needed for higher education and modern careers.

Fluent in English, French, Arabic and intermediate Russian, he brings a global outlook and a commitment to inspiring students to become confident, creative problem-solvers.

Olga Cretu currently serves as a University Placement Officer and Lecturer of Economics and Global Studies at University Foundation College in Doha, Qatar. Hailing from Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, Olga brings a wealth of educational background and expertise to her roles.

With a robust academic background including MA in International Relations and MA in Education and Therapy of People with Special Needs, as well as PGCEi from Nottingham University, Olga’s commitment to lifelong learning is evident.

Olga’s tenure at University Foundation College spans over seven years, during which she has significantly contributed to curriculum development, programme accreditation, and student success. Her adeptness in designing engaging syllabi and her proficiency in guiding students through university placements have resulted in remarkable achievements, including an impressive placement rate.

Notably, Olga’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her prior roles as a Lecturer and Public Relations Manager at the University of European Economic and Political Studies “Constantin Stere”, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, a research fellow at the Institute for Human Rights in Baku, Azerbaijan and Volunteer Coordinator at local NGOs. Her diverse experiences encompass project management, research, training, and community engagement, reflecting her multifaceted skill set and passion for educational excellence.

Dr. Mohammad is a Finance and Accounting Lecturer at University Foundation College – Qatar, with over 12 years of teaching and professional experience across Europe and the GCC. He holds a PhD from a well-reputed university and has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Financial Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Business Economics, and other business and management subjects. He takes a practical, student-centred approach to teaching, encouraging critical thinking, analytical skills, and the application of theory to real-world business and accounting scenarios. He has extensive experience in curriculum development, course design, and assessment creation, ensuring alignment with international standards and British-style educational programmes. Beyond teaching, Dr. Mohammad contributes to academic leadership and departmental initiatives to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, and programme quality. His research interests focus on accounting practices, financial reporting, management decision-making, and the integration of technology in accounting and organisational management. Committed to mentoring students and early-career professionals, he supports the development of analytical, ethical, and practical skills essential for success in accounting, business, and management across diverse professional contexts.

Hala Mohamed, the examination and registration manager known for her attention to detail and organisational skills. With a wink and a well-organised spreadsheet, Hala ensures that examinations run smoothly and maintains accurate records. Hala brings a refreshing sense of calm to the seriousness of examinations while upholding high standards. Her dedication to ensuring the smooth operation of assessments makes Hala a valuable asset in the world of examination management.

Nabil Makarem has been an Academic Administration Assistant at University Foundation College since 2021. He holds a master’s in business administration from the Lebanese American University in Beirut and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from the Lebanese American University.

Before coming to Qatar in 2020, Nabil was a part-time teacher at a polyclinic for students who struggled with their education, he was also a volunteer for the Lebanese Red Cross for 3 years with an EMT Certification. His main interest in life is to play and compose music in his spare time and is also directing the University Foundation College’s music club.

Nadia Mohammed Abdulla, who holds the position of Senior PR & Communications Manager at University Foundation College in Qatar, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. With a decade-long tenure at the Ministry of Education & Higher Education in Qatar before transitioning to the college in 2017, Nadia has cultivated a deep understanding of the educational landscape in the region.

At University Foundation College, Nadia serves as the primary liaison between the college and the Ministry of Education & Higher Education. Her role encompasses fostering and nurturing this crucial relationship, ensuring alignment with governmental initiatives and educational policies.

Nadia is involved in coordinating visits to government schools, where she engages with students, offering guidance through the admissions process.

Farah Shuib is a Higher Education professional with over 20 years of experience in student recruitment, marketing, academic delivery, and institutional operations across international education settings. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Pedagogy, reflecting her ongoing commitment to enhancing teaching, learning, and student engagement practices.

Her career spans both International and Qatar based institutions, including experience with the London School of Commerce, UK and as part of the pioneering team involved in establishing The National University of Malaysia-Qatar (UKM). These experiences have shaped her practical understanding of student recruitment, admissions, and institutional development within diverse educational environments.

Farah has supported recruitment initiatives, programme development, and student engagement efforts, bringing a well-rounded perspective that bridges academic and operational functions. She has also been involved in lecturing and corporate training, where she enjoys creating engaging, real world learning experiences.

She is passionate about building genuine connections with prospective students and supporting informed educational choices. Farah brings a thoughtful and adaptable approach, shaped by her diverse professional journey and commitment to continuous learning.

Althaf Ahammed is a marketing communications specialist in Doha, Qatar, with over 13 years of experience across digital strategy, brand communications, and media production. At University Foundation College (UFC), he focuses on lead generation, student outreach, and brand awareness through performance driven campaigns, inbound and outbound marketing, content production, website management, social media, and CRM systems across the student recruitment lifecycle.

Prior to joining UFC, Althaf worked as a Content Producer for Hayya Marketing Communications at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, contributing to the Hayya Digital Fan Experience Programme during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. He also has a background in broadcast media production as a Television Producer with leading media outlets in India, including Sun TV Network and MediaOne TV.

Althaf holds a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and has expertise in multimedia communications and multilingual content.

Gina Fernando, an accomplished Human Resources Manager with over 20 years of experience in Human Resources and Administration, has been a key figure at University Foundation College since its start-up in 2017. Throughout her professional journey, Gina has honed her expertise in strategic planning, recruitment, budgeting, team development, and organisational growth.

Armed with a solid educational foundation with a Bachelor’s Degree, she continuously pushes the boundaries of excellence and innovation in her field. Gina’s leadership style is marked by a commitment to fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment, driving success and achievement in her team and beyond. Her dedication to advancing HR and labour law practices and achieving operational excellence has solidified her reputation as a respected and accomplished professional in the industry.

Arif Majeed, the Finance Manager at University Foundation College, expertly blends financial expertise with a commitment to sustainability. While pursuing an MBA in Finance and Sustainability, he focuses on merging financial strategies with sustainable practices. Arif has significantly influenced the college’s financial direction, ensuring stability and sustainability in its operations. His leadership has fortified the finance department’s role in strategic decision-making and achieving the college’s financial and ecological objectives. Gregorio Alejandria hails from Manila, Philippines, and is a graduate of Adamson University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. With a solid background in procurement that extends across various responsibilities like inventory and warehouse management, contract management, and project management, he has climbed the career ladder from entry-level positions to leadership roles. Greg has garnered experience across diverse sectors including healthcare, telecommunications, and a holding company before his relocation to Qatar in 2016. He became part of UFC in November 2017.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Greg has a deep passion for film, music, especially karaoke sessions, and exploring new destinations through his travels. His journeys reflect a blend of professional growth and a personal love for creative arts and adventure.

Mohamed Mazhar Taha is a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer at University Foundation College in Qatar, with an impressive career of over 7 years. Serving in this role since September 2017, he has played a key role in the college’s technological advancements. He started his career as a Trainee Network Engineer at i4 Solutions W.L.L in Qatar, gaining valuable experience from November 2016 to March 2017. Prior to this, he served as a Junior Network Engineer at Maersk Oil, making significant contributions during a summer internship from June 2015 to September 2015.

His educational background includes a Diploma in Telecommunications Technology from the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (2010-2014) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Electronics, Telecommunication, and Internet from the University of Bradford- UK (2014-2016), highlighting his commitment to excellence in the field.

As the Senior network engineer at University Foundation College, Mohamed oversees the strategic implementation of technology solutions. With a wealth of experience managing IT infrastructure, he plays a crucial role in enhancing the college’s technological capabilities. Committed to innovation and efficiency, he ensures seamless integration of IT resources to support academic and administrative functions at the college.

Mohammed Elhafiz is an adept Public Relations Officer with an impressive 17-year career, specialising in managing government relations for the Ministries in Qatar. His expertise encompasses processing residency permits, licensing, visa applications, and other administrative procedures. Proficient in e-government systems, Mohamed effectively utilises digital platforms to streamline operations.

Renowned for his strategic acumen and dedication to excellence, he facilitates smooth interactions between individuals and governmental bodies. Mohamed’s commitment to efficiency and his deep understanding of government operations make him a trusted professional in the realm of public relations within Qatar’s governmental sphere.

Abderrahim Bessam brings eight years of industry experience to his role as a proficient Administrative Service Officer at the University Foundation College, where he has been a key figure since 2017. His unwavering commitment and dedication play a crucial role in the college’s effectiveness for both colleagues and students.

Beyond his professional endeavours, he passionately advocates for education and community involvement. Outside of work, he immerses himself in his interests in cars and sports, with football being a particular passion that he actively engages in.

Amjad Hossain, from Bangladesh, began his tenure as a cleaner at University Foundation College in 2023. With his unwavering trustworthiness and independent work ethic, he diligently ensures a pristine environment within the college premises. His dedication makes him an indispensable asset to the college.

Mary Inhog is a graduate of Masbate College in the Philippines, holding a degree in BSED majoring in English, with 3 years of teaching experience in the Philippines. Seeking fresh challenges, she embarked on a new journey abroad, joined the esteemed University Foundation College in 2023. Mary also enjoys watching movies in her free time.
