Heriot-Watt University

NCUK proudly welcomes Heriot-Watt University to its growing global network.

Through this partnership, students who complete the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) at University Foundation College (UFC), the only NCUK Study Centre in Qatar, can progress to Heriot-Watt University, with study opportunities available at its campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders, Orkney, Dubai and Malaysia, each offering bespoke facilities and a distinctive learning environment.

Founded in Edinburgh in 1821, Heriot-Watt University has more than two centuries of experience in delivering purpose led education that equips students with practical skills valued by employers.

Heriot-Watt University is known for its strong focus on science, engineering, business, design and research. Its programmes combine academic knowledge with practical learning, encouraging students to think critically, solve real world problems and apply their knowledge beyond the classroom.

We are thrilled to be partnering with NCUK as a highly regarded pathway provider to the University. NCUK’s reputation and values dedicated to academic excellence and diversity make them a perfect fit for Heriot-Watt, and we look forward to welcoming their students to campus.

The Edinburgh campus is set within 380 acres of parkland, offering a peaceful green environment just a short distance from the city centre. Edinburgh is the UK’s second largest financial hub, providing students with access to a dynamic business environment. The campus is also home to Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre, which serves as the training base for organisations such as the Scottish Football Association and Scottish Rugby. Students benefit from excellent sports facilities including synthetic pitches and high performance gyms, along with a vibrant range of clubs and societies.

For students interested in technology and innovation, the Edinburgh campus offers a unique advantage. It is home to the National Robotarium, the UK’s leading centre for robotics and artificial intelligence. Studying at Heriot-Watt means learning in an environment closely connected to research and technological developments shaping the future.

NCUK students want more than a degree—they want industry immersion, global networks, and return on their investment in education. Heriot‑Watt’s campuses in Scotland, Dubai, and Malaysia deliver exactly that, with employer‑aligned programmes, live projects, and direct links to multinational partners. From Scotland’s strong ties to energy, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, to Dubai’s connections with global finance and tech, and Malaysia’s partnerships with leading digital and automotive innovators—these campuses offer UK qualifications anchored in the realities of three of the world’s most dynamic regions.

By joining Heriot-Watt University, NCUK students become part of a global community of more than 30,000 students. They can study at campuses in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders or Orkney, or choose one of the university’s international campuses in Dubai or Malaysia, offering the opportunity to experience different cultures while earning a globally recognised qualification.

Dubai Campus

Located in one of the world’s most dynamic cities, the Heriot-Watt University Dubai campus offers industry focused programmes in areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, construction, engineering, finance and renewable energy. These programmes are designed to meet both regional and global employer demand.

The campus has received a five star rating from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and has more than two decades of experience contributing to the UAE’s higher education sector and developing future talent.

Students also benefit from strong industry connections through regular campus engagements with business leaders and professionals, including figures such as H.H. Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, providing opportunities to connect with leaders in climate technology, enterprise and social impact.

Malaysia Campus

Located in Putrajaya, the Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus combines UK academic standards with practical learning opportunities connected to Malaysia’s rapidly growing industries. Students benefit from exposure to industry projects and access to multinational business networks.

The campus has a strategic partnership with The Access Group, one of the UK’s largest business management software providers, to support the development of future technology professionals in Malaysia. Through this collaboration, students in Information Systems and Data Analytics gain opportunities for internships, academic exchanges and industry focused projects that connect classroom learning with real business challenges.

The campus also maintains strong links with New Hoong Fatt (NHF), a leading Malaysian automotive parts manufacturer and distributor. This partnership provides students with opportunities such as industrial visits, career fairs and internship programmes, offering valuable industry exposure for students in engineering and business fields related to automotive manufacturing and supply chains.

Heriot-Watt University has produced notable graduates across a wide range of fields. Alumni include Neil Duffin, former President of ExxonMobil Global, Jock Clear, Lead Performance Engineer in Formula 1, and Alex Birks, CEO and Co Founder of Suji, who credits his time at the university with helping transform an early idea into a business focused on addressing musculoskeletal pain.

Beyond the classroom, students become lifelong members of the Watt Club, the UK’s oldest alumni association. This global network of more than 173,000 professionals includes influential leaders such as Adam Crozier, former CEO of ITV and Royal Mail, providing students with valuable connections and opportunities across industries and countries.
