Live on campus and enjoy the full student experience. You can choose from modern ensuite rooms or more traditional style accommodation and find a place that feels like home while building friendships that will last. Weekly costs range from 100 to 185 pounds, with eleven accommodation options located within a twenty minute walk of the main campus.

All residences are fully furnished and include onsite laundry facilities, along with social spaces where you can relax with friends. Three locations also offer an onsite gym included in the rent. Trinity Square, Quay Point and Portland Green.

Northumbria University gives students access to excellent facilities for study, research and leisure. Major investment in recent years has created modern spaces set within a lively city environment. The university is ranked in the top ten in the UK and is the highest rated university in the North East for sustainability in the People and Planet University League 2024 to 2025.

Ranked twentieth for Facilities in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2025, the university offers modern laboratories, workshops, CAD suites, media labs and contemporary classrooms with the IT resources students need for a strong learning experience. The twenty four hour library gives round the clock access to study spaces and has held the UK Customer Service Excellence standard since 2010.

Outside academic life, Northumbria Sport supports every level of fitness across its two campuses. Sport Central seats three thousand spectators and includes fitness suites, an Olympic sized swimming pool and indoor courts for basketball and futsal. Outdoor pitches at Coach Lane host football, rugby and hockey.

Whether you compete at a high level or simply want to stay fit, Northumbria Sport supports every student at the university. There are thirty seven Student Sport Clubs, offering something for beginners as well as teams that compete in BUCS events.

Most activity is based at Sport Central, a thirty million pound facility that gives students, staff and the public access to excellent sports spaces and services. The university also runs Coach Lane Sports Ground, which includes both artificial and grass pitches for football, rugby, hockey and other outdoor sports.

The fitness suite includes strength machines, free weights, HIIT cardio equipment, cardiovascular machines and a large group training area. Sport Central also has an Olympic sized swimming pool with a sauna and steam room, using UV filtration to reduce chemicals and improve the swimming experience.

The complex features a full sized basketball court and courts for five a side football, netball and futsal. The Main Arena seats three thousand spectators and can be divided into three courts for netball, basketball, volleyball and badminton. With these facilities on campus, staying active at university becomes simple and enjoyable.

Northumbria University’s commitment to sustainability is central to its strategy. It is ranked in the top ten in the UK and is the highest rated university in the North East for sustainability in the People and Planet University League 2024 to 2025.

The University Strategy highlights its aim to maximise its contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through research, teaching, operations and campus activity.
